How to turn off AutoPlay videos on Facebook, Twitter, Firefox, and more

Many times, we must be in a difficult situation because videos on apps like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit might start to play on its own when it is not supposed to. They start to play as soon as a page gets loaded or when you start scrolling through an app.

The automatic video play feature is good to have but many times you start to watch videos that you might not be interested in and can be pretty irritating as well.

Here is how you can turn off auto play among various applications and browsers:

On Browser

1). Open the dropdown menu on the top right corner of the page.

2). Select “Settings and Privacy” > “Settings.”

3). Search for the “Videos” settings and turn off auto-playing videos.

On Android and iOS

1). Click on the menu button.

2)Tap on “Settings and Privacy.”

3). Scroll down to “Media and Contacts” and tap on “Videos and Photos.”

4). Turn off the “Autoplay” feature.


On Browser

1). Click on “More” in the left-hand menu and click on “Settings and privacy.”

2). Select “Accessibility, display, and languages” > “Data usage.”

3). Turn on the “Autoplay” feature.

On Android and iOS

1). Click on your profile picture on top of the screen.

2). Tap on “Settings and privacy” in the Menu.

3). Find “Data usage” and then select “Never” on “Video autoplay.”


Instagram doesn’t allow you to turn off autoplay on Instagram but there is a way to do it.

1). Go to “Settings” > “Account” > “Cellular Data Use.”

2). Toggle “Use Less Data.”


On Browser

1). Click your username on the upper right corner and click on “User settings” in the menu.

2). Select the “Feed settings” and toggle off the “Autoplay media” switch.

On Android and iOS

1). Tap the icon next to the search bar and then tap “Settings.”

2). Turn off the “Autoplay” option.

Desktop Browsers

Google Chrome
 : You cannot switch off autoplay on Google Chrome but you can turn off the sound in the browser.

1). Tap on the three dots in the upper right corner.

2). Select “Settings” > “Site settings” > “Sound.”

3). Toggle sound off, you can even add exceptions for sites you want to play sound on.

Microsoft Edge

1). Click on the three dots on the top right corner and select “Settings.”

2). Click on “Site Permissions” on the left-hand column, and then scroll down to “Media autoplay.”

3). Select the settings you want to choose for Media autoplay.


1). Click on the three lines in the upper right corner and select “Preferences.”

2). Click on “Privacy and Security” in the left-hand column.

3). Permissions> Autoplay> Settings.

4). Select the settings you want to choose for Media autoplay.


1). Safari> Preferences in the top menu.

2). Click on “Websites” in the top menu.

3). Look and search for “Auto-Play.”

4). Select “Never Auto-Play” in the drop-down menu at the bottom right of the window
